audemars piguet contemporary
musée atelier exhibition, 2021
the musée atelier invited audemars piguet contemporary, the manufacture’s art program that commissions and supports contemporary artists, to mount a temporary exhibition reflecting the transformation of materials in contemporary art practices.
transformation-matière takes its inspiration from the creation of the royal oak in 1972, when for the first time in haute horlogerie, steel was elevated to the same status as gold. Reflecting the creative process behind the royal oak 50 years ago, the artworks presented in this exhibition demonstrate how working with a new material can lead artists to philosophical and emotional discoveries.
